Running around the Hungarian sea - 2nd Lake Balaton Supermarathon 28 March
The second Lake Balaton Supermarathon has arrived to his end on last Sunday. Enthusiastic runners arrived from eight different countries to the most popular tourist attraction of Hungary. The number of the individual runners has doubled from last year. Instead of the hard winter like weather most of the runners achieved the whole distance. All the records have been beaten at this race of a very nice atmosphere.
The 2nd Lake Balaton Supermarathon ultra race of 4 days and 195,4 km began on the 19th of March. There were 115 individual runners, 19 pairs and 80 relay teams composed of 4 runners gathered at the start line of the race running around the Hungarian sea. In spite of the dark weather forecast there was a cold weather but without any rain and the runners could enjoy the sunshine during the race. The course of the race was mostly close to the shore of the lake, so the determined runners were compensated by a beautiful view. On the first day a 46,8 km long distance had to be accomplished between Siófok and Fonyód. In the race of the individual runners Zoltán Fajfrik arrived the first among the men and Viktória Makai among the women. The fastest team was the TTT-HSE Tigers between men and Szondi Ladies between women, and the fastest pair the Lake runners.
On the second day of the race the 20th of March a 52,9 km long course was awaiting for the runners between Fonyód and Szigliget. After a sunny start the weather finally turned wilder and the second part of the field had to support a heavy snowing weather. So it was a real challenge especially at the finish, when they had to climb up to the finish line at the Castle in Szigliget. This day we could applaud the same first finishers than the previous day. The fastest foreign man was Gianpietro Guidolin from Belgium, the fastest woman Christine Gehmacher from Germany. All the records were beaten on this longest and venturesome day.
On the third day 21st of March, the race continued between Badacsony and Balatonfüred with a 43,1 km long stretch. The field was completed by a marathon+ race. Those runners who wanted to try themselves at a longer distance than marathon could enter the camp of ultra marathon runners. Even the weather was friendlier with the runners, this time they had to overcome the heavy wind and the relief of the course. By the end of the day the individual runners reached already 140 km of accomplished distance.
On Sunday, 22nd of March the last, fourth day of the 2nd Lake Balaton Supermarathon the runners had to run the 51,7 km long distance from Balatonfüred to Siófok. The finish was fined at the start line of the first day in Siófok, so runners do ran around the Hungarian sea. Among the male relay teams the TTT-HSE Tigers has kept his first place alike the Szondi Ladies among the women. Zoltán Fajfrik was the winner of the man individual race where as among the women Viktória Makai won the race. At the finish all participant was rewarded by a medal. Each category finished by a fantastic record time. This performance does deserve recognition for all participants.

Tagore promenade at Balatonfüred is under recovery works so we were obliged to change the finish of the 3rd day and the start of the 4th day of the Balaton Supermarathon. Due to these modifications the distances have changed as well according to the following: 3rd day became 43,1 km and the 4th 51,7 km. Please take a look at the details at the race information here!

There are already more than 100 individual runners on the 2nd Lake Balaton Supermarathon. This new ultra race in Hungary has already attracted also runners from abroad, by now from 7 different countries.
